Happy New Year 2017!

Happy New Year everyone! May this year bring you heath, happiness, and success in your endeavors.

2017 is shaping up to be an exciting year for me already - I recently started an Instagram (@rothbyrnscreative) and have been hard at work preparing to launch my Etsy store (coming soon!). I'm looking forward to continuing to learn and grow in the coming year!

All my best,

The Power of Editing

I took the below photo at Diner en Blanc, a glamorous outdoor dinner party that I was lucky enough to attend a few weeks ago. Isn't it dreamy? It makes me happy every time I see it.

This picture has a secret - it was taken on my cell phone! I was really bummed that I didn't have my camera with me, but with the power of editing, I was able to create a stunning photo.

Here is the original for comparison:

These are the edits I made to kick things up a notch:

  • Noise reduction (smoothing out the graininess)
  • Enhanced lighting (brightening exposure, dehazing)
  • Cropping
  • Added a vignette (it gets darker around the edges)
  • Hiding distractions (spot removal)

This list is just some of the ways that a professional photographer can enhance a photo to make the subject stand out. In a future post, we'll explore a few of the tricks that I use to enhance photos of my clients!

All my best,

First Post + NY Comic Con!

Hello, and welcome to the Rothbyrns Creative blog! This will be a space for me to share updates, photos, custom creations, and new ideas. I’m so thrilled to be launching my new business - thanks for joining me on this adventure!

This weekend I attended New York Comic Con for the first time. I've wanted to go for years, but the timing was never right. Finally, it was! In addition to the seemingly endless show floor with more booths than I could ever explore, there was an Artist's Alley filled with creators and their creations. I bought a few prints that I'm excited to show off, and came away with even more respect for folks who live their art full time.

But Comic Con isn't just about the booths, it's also about the people! Everywhere you look at Comic Con, there are incredible costumes. As a photographer, it was so much fun to see everyone posing and ready to have their picture taken. And boy, did I take pictures! I’ve included my favorites below – you can check out the full album on my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/rothbyrnscreative. The whole event is so vibrant and colorful, and I definitely recommend attending next year if you can!

I'm not one to save the best for last, so we're going to start with my absolute favorite picture of the weekend. I love how one image can tell such a complete story!

Superman, down on his luck, shines Batman’s shoes as Wonder Woman looks on.
